Lydia

Lydia of Thyatira was a merchant of expensive purple cloth.

She was a worshipper of God and had come to faith in Jesus Christ after hearing the gospel through Paul, who had travelled to her town on one of his missionary journeys.

Upon her conversion, she and her household were baptized. She insisted on hosting Paul and Luke in her home. They were convinced. Later, following the imprisonment of Paul and Silas, they returned to the home of Lydia to meet with and encourage the believers there. Lydia is known as the first Christian convert in Europe, as well as a leader instrumental in starting the first church in Philippi. (Acts 6:13-15, 40)
