Naomi (meaning pleasant) was a woman from the town of Bethlehem, in Judah. She married a man named Elimelek, and they had two sons, Mahlon and Kilion. When a great famine came to Judah, Naomi tragically lost her husband and two sons.

Naomi’s daugher-in-law Ruth, in an act of great love and loyalty, refused to leave her side. Instead of returning to her hometown, Ruth chose to follow Naomi to Bethlehem.

Because of Naomi's great care for Ruth, she worked to ensure she was cared for by contacting a family member named Boaz. He owned a field nearby and Naomi made arrangements for Ruth to work safely under the care of Boaz. Ruth later married Boaz, bringing redemption to the family. They had a son, Obed, and great joy and restoration came to Naomi, and her family grew and was blessed.
